Dawn Quick - Managing Director

Registered Nurse (non-practising), Adv Dip, BSc, LLB (Hons), LLM

Dawn worked as a nurse in different clinical specialties for many years in both the NHS and the Royal Air Force. She worked primarily in neuro rehabilitation, specialising in long term neurological conditions and brain injuries. During her nursing career, Dawn worked at the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine at the former Selly Oak and Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham and the renowned Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre, Headley Court. This involved nursing patients who had sustained complex poly-trauma injuries which were often life changing. This included injuries that affected mobility, neurological and executive functioning, mental health, independence, sight and hearing. After leaving the RAF, Dawn worked as part of the Community Neuro Rehabilitation Team at a local NHS Trust, looking after patients with long term neurological conditions. Alongside this role, Dawn also took part in inspections with the Care Quality Commission as a Specialist Nurse Advisor. Dawn advised the Lead Inspector on whether the standard of care being delivered was based on current practices and legislation. She has also acted as a School Governor, being the Link Governor for Special Educational Needs including both learning difficulties and learning disabilities. Dawn now works in the legal sector helping people with disabilities.

During her time in the military, Dawn unfortunately sustained injuries affecting her mobility. When she commenced her law training, she was diagnosed with dyslexia and dyscalculia. So, from an accumulative perspective, Dawn has a significant amount of experience in disabilities.

Dawn has a strong passion for justice and therefore, this has been her driving force and motivation towards bringing awareness to the barriers those with disabilities face. From her own experience, there is still a long way that both employers and public spaces can go to make reasonable adjustments, so places are more accessible.

Peter Quick - Director and Trainer

Registered General Nurse (non-practising), Registered Sick Children's Nurse (non-practising), Registered Mental Nurse (non-practising), Dip HE

Peter worked as a nurse in a number of specialities for 35 years, which included working in Accident and Emergency and Paediatrics. This also involved working 15 years as a senior RAF Nursing Officer. He was a Flight Commander on the RAF Aeromedical Squadron, transferring complex patients around the world, as well as deploying in pre-hospital care roles on helicopters. He enjoyed teaching academic students in universities, as well as military students in a wide variety of settings. He was also an instructor and course director on a major incident course that was multi-national and often required teaching to participants outside the United Kingdom.

After leaving the RAF, Peter worked as a School Nurse, helping children with learning disabilities, physical disabilities and emotional health and wellbeing. He was also an Inspector and Specialist Nurse Advisor for the Care Quality Commission, inspecting hospitals and nursing homes, using his experience in assessing staff and facilities.

Peter's motivation comes in part from his experience as a nurse but also from his own experiences as a carer and with an acquired disability himself affecting his mobility.
